About this wood
Maple has a tight, subtle grain and a clean, contemporary look. It is dense and durable, though it can be selective about how it takes stain. Real wood is also the only floor that can be sanded and
refinished, so a scratched or dated floor can be brought back rather than torn out. Handled well,
it outlasts every other flooring category by decades and it is the surface buyers still ask for
by name.

Unfinished, and why some projects need it
This floor is sanded and finished after installation, in your home. That takes longer and creates dust, but it buys two things you cannot get any other way. First, the boards meet flush with no bevel, giving a seamless surface. Second, the stain color is mixed to your sample, so it can be matched to existing floors in an addition or a partial remodel.
Installing Maple 1st Grade Solid hardwood
Wood moves with humidity, so we acclimate the material in your home before installation and
check subfloor moisture first. Skipping that step is the single most common cause of gaps and
cupping later. Method depends on the subfloor: nail-down over plywood, glue-down over concrete.
Day to day, sweep or vacuum with a hard-floor setting and clean with a wood-specific product.
Keep standing water off the floor and use felt pads under furniture. More on our
hardwood flooring installation page.
